The City used to be a friar land belonging to the
Augustinian Congregation in 1648 but only became a Municipilaty in 1849 with
Siverio Fernandez as its first Gobernadorcillo and Pedro Labuca as Capitan.
Some accounts trace the origin of its name fromMagtalisay trees abounding in
the area while other claim origin of the name from a town in Span,
In both the America and japanesse occupations, Talisay
served as haven of the colonial forces. During World War II, the City served as
the center of guerilla intelligence operations for the Philippines resistance movement
in Cebu. The returning American forces made their historic landing in the beach
of Talisay on march 26, 1945 an event which is now annually commemorated by th
City of Talisay and Provincial Government of Cebu as “Takas sa Talisay” day. On
December 30, 2000, talisay became a component of City by virtue of Republic Act
8979 sponsored by the Congressman Eduado R.Gullas, the First Mayor of the City
of Talisay.

THE HOMELAND OF MAGTALISAY TREES
There were many stories about Talisay since then when
I was young.People often foretold stories from old legends about the place
where there stood the big Magtalisay trees. They say it was a tree of
usefulness and it is the pride of the villagers. They praise and worship the
tree because they believe gods and goddesses were protecting it.
Magtalisay trees are rare of its kind, it stand against floods and
earthquakes bound to protect the barangay from destruction. It was
known to be protected by "Maria de Cacao" ,a beautiful fairy who
lives by the river banks of Mananga river situated on the boundary of the
place.
It was then that the place was abundant with food and shelter when "Maria" was said to be rotecting he people around it. Some people say that they saw the goddess in the woods and while waiting for the sunset.
Time flies so fast that people populated and things
begun to change. They abuse nature and cut theMagtalisay trees that
grew to build houses or use for lumber. This angered Maria and
decided to stop the people from ruining the nature. She decided to bring a
large typhoon and the wash away the village and ruined houses and plow lands.
Many stories said that Maria was on a big wooden ship
sailing on the day of the typhoon in Mananga River. People say that she was
very angry and caused her to crush down the bridge connecting the other two
barangays -- tabunok and lawaan.
To remind people of the importance of Magtalisay trees in
the locale, fellow barangay leaders who were survivors decided to name "Talisay"
as the place, to remember that it was once a place and a homeland of Magtalisay
trees.Today, the name of the City continued to flourish as it has rich legends
and myths about the Magtalisay trees.
Talisay Central School
Its unique Gabaldon design was built during
the American era, it was used as Japanese Garison during the World War II.

“a beautiful place” and refers to a small village of green, rolling hills close
to the town of Vallendar in Germany, where the apostolic Marian movement
started before World War I.
In Cebu, the Schoenstatt shrine is a replica of the original shrine in Germany with its distinctive steeple and bell, resting atop a hill in Lawaan III in Talisay City overlooking the Cebu harbor and eastern seaboard of the metropolis.

"Talisay's Halad-Inasal Festival"
Have you noticed every time there are Filipino gatherings
like birthday, fiesta and the likes, guests always look forward for some crispy
brown skin and tasty meat of roasted pig? It seems like the dish completes the
menu! And Filipinos call this delicious dish, “inasal”.
Yet in Talisay City, this delicious inasal is not only served during fiestas but also an integral part
of the city’s annual festival celebration and the highlight of Halad-Inasal Festival which is celebrated on the 14th and 15th
of October in honor of Talisay’s patroness, Sta. Theresa de Avila. There will
be a parade of “inasal” or roasted
pigs. Each roasted pig that joins the parade will be dressed in various
costumes and prettified with decorations.
The street dancing kicks off at the
Talisay City Hall and contingents dance their way to the South Coastal Road.
The choreography for the dances depict the movements involved in preparing
Talisay’s famous specialty, the “inasal.”
The celebration is laced with a series of
events and activities leading to the day of the feast itself. Among these are
nightly variety shows, an agro-industrial products fair, and “Ms. Talisay City
Tourism” pageant.
Talisay City has 7
barangays which are engaged to fishing activities and fish processing. There
are about 27 commercial fishing operators in the city. Inland fishing or
fishponds are also established in some barangays of the city.
Agricultural areas in the city are grown with crops such as corn, rice, vegetables, root crops and fruit crops. Poultry and livestock are raised in backyards and in large farms. Cottage industries such as rattan craft, fish processing, native handicrafts, fashion accessories, garment manufacturing and stone craft are also sources of livelihood of the city’s residents.

Brief History:
This up-and-coming
world-class estate was created through a Y 12 billion overseas development
assistance package extended by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation,
the largest loan amount that the bank ever extended to a local government unit
in the Philippines.
The Philippine Economic
Zone Authority which promotes world-class and environment-friendly economic
zones for foreign investment has granted the SRP Special Economic Zone status.
The property was initially conceptualized to host export-oriented light
industries. Its evolution into a mixed-use area is a result of thoughtful
consideration of economic realities, tipping the balance towards social
relevance.
By its metamorphosis into
a mixed-use area, the SRP has broadened locators’ investment options and opened
more doors for end-users to enjoy the benefits its superb location offers. The
SRP is the City of Cebu’s creative means of propelling more economic activity,
creating more jobs and elevating the quality of life for its residents and
those of its neighbouring towns and cities.
Location and size:
The South Road Properties
(SRP) site comprises 300 hectares of waterfront land just to the south of the
Cebu CBD and the Port of Cebu. Some 240 hectares has been reclaimed. The SRP is located on the
east coast of cosmopolitan Cebu City,
capital of Cebu Province.
MORE INFORNATION ABOUT
SRP:
Cebu’s South Road
Properties (SRP) is one of the most awaited developments in the booming Cebu
City. The South Road Properties (SRP) site comprises 300 hectares of waterfront
land registered with PEZA as a Special Economic Zone. The SRP was planned to provide
additional reclaimed land beside the east coast in Cebu City. The SRP is
envisioned to catalyze the massive development of Cebu as a major investment
and leisure destinations in Asia. The project commenced in
the early 1990’s and is a greenfield site. It is where the main investor players are involved;
